I think on average for a semester, I go home about every month and a half. There’s always something going on here at school, and a lot of my friends are here on the weekends. Today was Dogapalooza! Dogapalooza is a picnic for all residents of UMBC. I am on the Communtiy Action Board for my hall, Erickson, and our team was really competitive. We came in second place in all the events and activities they had. We won the relay race and the ninja game. Other games they had there were water balloon toss, pie eating contest and tug o’ war. The weather was perfect for it! I really enjoy staying on campus during the weekends because there is usually something really exciting going on. I hate having to miss events.
This past week was the outlier for my average of times of going home a semester and I had to miss quite a few events.I went home a lot last week because I was so sick. The location of UMBC is so perfect. I am far enough away from home that I can stay on campus for a while and live independently. However, I am close enough to home that when I feel awful and am in so much pain I cannot walk, I can call my momma and go home. My condition got so bad last week I went home and to the hospital on Tuesday. After many, many, many (too many) hours in the hospital and many painful tests, the doctors concluded that there was nothing wrong with me and sent me home with some very strong, prescribed pain medications. The pain medications helped me function to an extent, but had horrible side effects. My parents brought me saltines and crackers, a teddy bear(average things I need when i’m sick), and lots of support as I continued to get through the week under the influence of pain killers.
I’m really glad my family is around. I won’t lie, sometimes I need them. Nonetheless, I am really glad I get to stay on campus and have a new adventure every weekend.
(As an update, I will say that this weekend has seemed to cure whatever illness I had before and I am feeling much better.)
