I Love Fun.

I enjoy having fun and UMBC brings fun to campus in more ways than one! The UMBC Student Events Board (seb), a group that organizes on-campus events, brought one of my favorite bands, Fun., to perform! Fun. performed last weekend and the concert was an experience! I read in a recent article about the band that their concerts “change lives”.  While this may be an exaggeration to some extent, it was certainly a night to remember. My friends and I arrived to the University Center ballroom, where the concert was, about an hour before the doors opened and there was already a long line! It was freezing outside but all the Fun. fans didn’t mind, I sure didn’t.  After standing for an hour in the cold, I was able to stand at the very front of the stage and see one of my favorite singers! Nate Ruess, the lead singer, sang and held all the high notes while jumping up and down! He sang all my favorite songs and I noticed he wasn’t wearing shoes. Nate explained he had been playing basketball at the RAC, our fitness building, which he called the “Retriever Dome” and got blisters. He said he decided to sing barefoot.

The sound was amazing as I jumped up and down with my hands in the air singing along to all the songs I knew. I had such a grand time! After they sang their number one hit song, “We Are Young”, Nate commented that the Chesapeake Bay Retriever was the strangest, but coolest mascot he knew. I had never been so proud to be a UMBC Retriever. I feel so fortunate that I had the chance to see such an amazing performance.  It may not have changed my life, but it was such a magnificent concert, I am currently in the process of buying tickets to see them a second time. I urge everyone I know to not only listen to them, but to see them as well. Nate’s theatrical performance and beautiful voice range is something that you should not miss!
